At the V&A museum in London, you will find an amazing little treasure printed on a wall in the fashion section- "The Fashion Wheel".

It's by Ruben Toledo.

I was only going to post about that, but then when I googled the man, I discovered a whole crazy world of his fashion illustrations.

Once again, I wish I had talent with a pencil.

Quite possibly my favourite thing to come out of France, apart of course from Edith Piaf and pastry, would have to be the art of Toulouse Lautrec.

The way he captured people in an almost cartoon manner brought out their personalities in ways unexpected.

And of course, there are his advertisements.

I would love it if a full on illustration of mine was even half as prolific as one of his rough sketches.

Oh, and the Moulin Rouge!

I have a number of his posters around my house, the one below in my studio area and what sparked my urge to delve into Lautrec's work now.

Ahhhh Paris. If only I had known you before you grew up.

I want to run away and join the circus.

I could wear brilliant costumes, and learn to be an elephant's best friend.

There would be no shortage of interesting people- ones with pasts to hide and audiences to fool.

All I would know would be the fake glamour of the big top, trouping around the country, blowing in and out of towns like a warm summer breeze.

It would be my family, brought together by our inabilities to fit in anywhere else.

I want to run away and join the circus.

Let me climb from the ocean to the sky.

To a place where the fences are meant to be looked through.

Where you can see the tiny flicker of lights burning, throwing shadows and beams of light, indiscriminate about what they choose and choose to hide.

Where decay and age are a necessary part of creating the beauty and decor of the surroundings.

And where serenity is a lone duck in a faded blue pond.
