Down to Business

I've almost finished writing my business plan.

So, let's get down to business.

  1. Am I right in thinking that this is/was your final year at Uni? Where would you like the your degree to take you...fashion design? theatre costumes? fashion magazines?

I would really love to see the finished creations that you started here....how did the knotted dress turn out? ....Only if you feel comfortable sharing of course...sometimes I have creations that never see the light of day, simply because I have invested too much emotion into them.

    Cheers

  2. hey Joan, yeah it's my final year-only 5 weeks left after 4 years of study! I finished the first of my garments yesterday after 6 months of designing, toiling and re-toiling. I'll do a shoot in a few weeks and put the images up. I'm also making a short film featuring the designs so hopefully that'll turn out well.
When I started my degree I wanted to go into fashion journalism. But after doing work experience for a fashion magazine, and various endeavours along the way, I've realised that costume design is in fact my calling. I love wearable art and outrageous design. I wanted to take next year off to travel, and then maybe do some more study, but the real world is somehow finding me. I'm writing a business plan, and late november will be part of a Launch My Label parade and event. I've been given an opportunity to do some costume design for a stage production next year, so hopefully that'll come to fruition.

The knotted dress is alright, I'll get some dye onto it in the next week or so. I've had a very love/hate relationship with the whole collection and process, so I can't wait to see it all finalised (and hopefully I'll be back to loving it!)

    Stay Tuned!!!

  3. Staying tuned. I have just got back to your comment....a bit slow I'm afraid. Really looking forward to seeing what you have been working on over the last 6 months. Designs for the stage sounds really exciting. All the best with your business plan and the Parade in November.

    Cheers
    Joan
