Getting ready for the Fifties Fair

Those of you who know me, know that I collect tea bags. In fact, when living in Germany, I had everyone I knew collecting tea bags for me. My wearable art "Tea & Sympathy" is what they all went towards, even if in the process my land lady nearly kicked me out for drying tea bags in the attic.

Well, scientists and fashion designers in the UK have developed a fabric made from, you guessed it, Tea!

The fibre, which is similar to see-through papyrus, is actually grown in large vats of tea, sugar and other nutrients. A bacteria that is added to the solution creates filaments which float to the top in a matted fabric.

The fabric, once treated and manipulated, is similar to a really thin and light-weight leather, and has already been used to make clothes, shoes and accessories.

I always knew tea was a magical substance...

i make. you wear it.

How cool are some people?
Rachel Burke has set herself the task of making one dress every saturday for 6 months in an effort to raise funds for NAPCAN.

She scouts for models, then gets a little party together, drinks wine and sews dresses.

I think that is the most perfect way to spend a saturday evening!

Circus Bezerkus

I am so excited. After reading Water For Elephants by Sara Groen, I fell in love with all things old-school-circus. That was around the time I did my blog on Running Away to the Circus.I wanted to change my collection theme, and just do all things acrobatic. I consoled myself with the thought that once I finish uni, to get the circus out of my system, I'll just make myself a crazy dress.
Well, now I have validation! Art U Wear, for whom I created the Red Queen dress a few months ago, have released next year's theme. And as if I didn't already think they could read my mind, the theme they've chosen is...
CIRCUS BEZERKUS.I cannot contain my happiness!

Modern Love

AND what is love? It is a doll dress'd up
For idleness to cosset, nurse, and dandle;A thing of soft misnomers, so divine
That silly youth doth think to make itself
Divine by loving, and so goes on
Yawning and doting a whole summer long,
Till Miss's comb is made a pearl tiara,
And common Wellingtons turn Romeo boots; Then Cleopatra lives at number seven,
And Antony resides in Brunswick Square.Fools! if some passions high have warm'd the world,
If Queens and Soldiers have play'd deep for hearts,It is no reason why such agonies
Should be more common than the growth of weeds.
Fools! make me whole again that weighty pearlThe Queen of Egypt melted, and I'll say
That ye may love in spite of beaver hats.
